Synopsis: Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.
My Review:

Aliens have never been my thing but when I saw all the hype this novel was getting I decided Obsidian looked interesting enough for me to give it a go. To my shock I fell absolutely in love with the series and with Armentrout's writing and characters. In the end I even loved Daemon (even though I knew I really shouldn't...) and wanted nothing more than to run out and grab the sequel!

With an action packed ending and more than enough action to keep me fascinated by the story the plot was interesting, albeit unoriginal, and definitely made for a page turning novel. I was enraptured by page one and could think of nothing else but finishing this novel, which I absolutely blew through. With cheesy, but cute, dialogue and a fun story line Obsidian is one of the few novels about aliens that I have ever really loved.

Katy was a fantastic main character, when Daemon was being a jerk she wasn't afraid to shove it back in his face and tell him off. Their constant bantering made for an entertaining character dynamic and made the steamy romance scenes even more fun to read. Katy is undoubtedly one of the strongest female characters in YA, refusing to put up with any of Daemon's crap and not afraid to stand up for herself. Not to mention she's a book blogger! Katy and I would have been friends, no doubt about it.

Obsidian definitely caught me off guard; I wasn't expecting to like this novel nearly as much as I did. While I was a little put off at first by Armentrout's slightly cheesy, but relatable, writing I quickly fell in love with her writing style and her awesome take on aliens. Part of the charm of Obsidian was that it so far from being serious and had its fair share of silly moments, which worked so well Armentrout's writing.

An amazing novel all around I would definitely recommend this book to not just fans of YA but to fans of the paranormal in general. With fantastic well-rounded characters and a way of making me take aliens seriously, Armentrout has earned a place on my auto-read list!

5/5
