Synopsis: I could smell her fear, and it satisfied something deep inside me that had been writhing under her cool, superior gaze. I curled my upper lip so she could get a good look at my sharp teeth. I might only weigh thirty or so pounds in my coyote shape, but I was a predator...
Mechanic Mercy Thompson can shift her shape - but not her loyalty. When her former boss and mentor is arrested for murder and left to rot behind bars by his own kind, it's up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.
Mercy's loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can't decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her...
My Review:
The Mercy Thompson series only gets better and better as the series continues. Iron Kissed was no exception; with two sexy werewolves vying for her attention, a dangerous fae murderer, and more than enough action to keep me turning pages long into the night, this novel was an absolutely amazing addition to an already fantastic series. The perfect blend of action and romance Iron Kissed is one of the best in the series so far!
Iron Kissed definitely takes a darker turn than any of the books in the series but at the same time manages no to be overbearing or depressing. Mercy is a strong character and even though bad things are always happening to her she takes them in stride and doesn't allow them to bring her down for more than a few pages. Likewise Mercy is able to keep the werewolves and their tempers in check without showing a hint of fear, I was even laughing out loud at some of her comments toward Adam, making me like her even more.
The love triangle between Mercy, Adam, and Sam finally comes to a close in Iron Kissed although I never really saw much of a question in who Mercy would end up with. I really love how Mercy made the decision she needed to stop stringing them both along and went out and DID it. With so many PNR heroines they know they need to pick but at the same time they continue to lead both of the love interests on because "they love them both so much they can't pick!"
One of the biggest reasons I love Mercy as much as I do is because she isn't the typical paranormal heroine. There's no "I'm a badass" chip on her shoulder. She makes dumb decisions and then she realizes they're dumb. She doesn't go around provoking fights and causing trouble. Mercy is able to be fiercely independent without pushing away those she loves and causing more problems than there need to be.
Despite the horrible and trashy covers the Mercy Thompson series is one of the absolute best paranormal romance series out there. If there is one series that all paranormal romance fans need to read this one is it!
5/5
