Synopsis: Miss Linnet Berry Thrynne is a Beauty . . . Naturally, she's betrothed to a Beast.

Piers Yelverton, Earl of Marchant, lives in a castle in Wales where, it is rumored, his bad temper flays everyone he crosses. And rumor also has it that a wound has left the earl immune to the charms of any woman.

Linnet is not just any woman.

She is more than merely lovely: her wit and charm brought a prince to his knees. She estimates the earl will fall madly in love--in just two weeks.

Yet Linnet has no idea of the danger posed to her own heart by a man who may never love her in return.

If she decides to be very wicked indeed . . . what price will she pay for taming his wild heart?

My Review:

I had very low expectations when I stared this novel, especially after the first novel I read by Eloisa James. However, the second I met both Linnet and Piers I knew I was going to love this novel. With plenty of romance, well developed characters, and a steady plot When Beauty Tamed the Best turned out to be a surprising pleasant and shockingly enjoyable read.

The second I met Linnet and Piers I knew this novel wouldn't fall into the same traps that the first novel I read by James did. Wonderfully developed with unique personalities I instantly loved both of them for all their strengths and weaknesses. I laughed at their banter and cheered for their romance. Even though Linnet was the stereotypical beauty and Piers was the stereotypical gruff love interest their characters just worked for this novel.

While the plot was really nothing new James was able to make the situation seem fresh and exciting through fabulous character development. Piers's interest in medicine and the threat of an epidemic added an interesting twist to the story, then his injured leg added an even more interesting twist on top of that. Likewise Linnet's fearlessness made for plenty of entertaining situations, many including Piers.

In addition to the romance between Linnet and Piers there was a cute little side plot about Piers's parents. Having split up years ago and just now being reunited it was entertaining to watch their interactions as they fell back in love with each other. Even though their part in the novel was a relatively small one their blossoming relationship added depth to the novel.

Fans of historical romance will no doubt adore this novel and those looking for a cute historical read need to search no further. With an exciting climax, plenty of romance, and two lovable main characters When Beauty Tamed the Best was an absolutely fantastic read!

5/5
