Top Ten Tuesday: October 15th

This week's Top Ten Tuesday features books that I was forced to read, whether it was in school or just by friends who never shut up about a certain book! I know I could go on for ages about all the terrible books I was forced to read in school so I'm going to focus on books I actually liked instead!

1. The October Dayes series by Seanan McGuire- My best friend would not shut up about this series so I finally had to go see what all the fuss was about... now I'm completely addicted. Now one of my favorite series of all time I can definitely understand why she wouldn't stop raving about them!

2. 1984 by George Orwell - I ended up liking this book much more than I thought I would when I had to read it for Junior year English class. Its never going to be one of my favorite books but it was interesting enough that I didn't die of boredom... which I did during every other book I had to read in that class.

3. The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa - I also had a few friends who would not stop talking about this series! Even though I didn't like it all that much the first time I read it I ended up loving it when I re-read it! (Funny how stuff like that works..)

4. Cinder by Marissa Meyer - The same friend who would not shut up about the October Daye series also would not shut up about this series, so of course I had to read it... and now I can't stop!

5. Othello by William Shakespeare - The only bearable novel I read in Sophomore year English this novel really clicked with me. Instead of making up reasons for my analysis I found myself really understanding what was going on and what everything meant.

6. Dark Lover by J R Ward - I'd heard about this novel from so many bloggers and reviewers that I knew, that as a HUGE fan of paranormal romance, I couldn't NOT read this book. It ended up being okay, but maybe I was just expecting too much because of everything I heard.

7. Soulless by Gail Carriger - Another series recommended to me by the same friend again (at this point I just always trust her suggestions), and I ended up really enjoying the series! A lot more than I thought I would honestly.

8. Little Women by Lousia May Alcott - One of my mom's favorite novels as a kid she always pressured me to read it and when I did was surprised by how much I liked it! Again not one of my favorites, but one that I liked more than I expected to!

9. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - Another book for school that turned out to be bearable! I read this one for an out of class book report assignment and ended up doing great on the paper, probably because I actually read the whole thing!

10. The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare - Another of my mom's favorite books as a child and one of mine as well. This novel really sparked my interest in Witch Trials and what the world was like at the time. To this day I still find it a fascinating time in history, all thanks to this book!

Leave a comment letting me know your Top Ten novels that you were forced to read!

  1. I love Toby, and Cinder, and Alexia, and Elizabeth--yay for strong, and sometimes kick-butt female characters. Including ones that know how to weaponize a parasol. :)
